7 simple steps to help empower you!
“The only thing constant in life is change.” -Heraclitus
The tide flows in and the tide flows out; the question isn’t whether or not we will experience another high tide, the question is what can we do in the mean time to keep the energy and momentum up until the next big wave.
7 Things you can do to feel more empowered!
#1 Eat Healthy, Organic, Whole foods
Fueling your body with whole fruits and vegetables is by far one of the best things you can do for both your mind and body. Make a juice, smoothie, salad or simple stir fry and you are starting the day giving your body what it needs to function at its finest. Think of your body like a Mazarati, give it the best and only the best.
#2 Limit Sugar
Sugar hides itself everywhere. There is an abundance in packaged processed foods, sauces, breads, and beverages. Sugar is like a drug once you’ve had some you want more. Scientific studies show that sugar triggers similar areas in our brain as cocaine, alcohol and other addictive substances. (“Your Brain on Sugar” WebMD)
On the positive side once you’ve started to cut it out it gets easier to go without it, then you start to develop an awareness of all the places its lurking. Fruit, as delicious as it may be is all sugar and although fruit has its benefits for this purpose limiting your consumption for a couple days can have a very cleansing effect.
#3 Read/Watch Something Inspirational
This can be anything. A book, a quote, some art, youtube whatever you can spend some time looking at or reading that makes you feel inspired do it! Shoot, even hop on a social media site (i.e. twitter/instagram) and browse through some of your favorite inspirational leaders profiles.
#4 Listen to music
Music can do wonders for your soul. Now its time to turn off the social media and connect with the present moment. Turn up the volume of your favorite artist and jam out. Maybe even dance like no body’s watching 😉
#5 Connect with a Friend
Reach out however time allows, maybe right now its just a text or a Facebook message but if possible give a call or even better make a personal connection by spending time with someone who lifts you up and makes you feel energized after interacting with them. Human connection is incredibly nourishing for the soul.
#6 Spend some time with Nature
If it’s possible get out of the city even if its just a few miles, it is amazing what taking a step back can do. If there is not enough time to venture out of the city then go to a park, lake or any other place where you can get out of the car walk around to smell the fresh air. (A good grounding exercise is to walk around with your bare feet in contact with the earth.)
During times when your not feeling so empowered this can be one of the most challenging things to do (yet it literally requires the least amount of physical energy). This one is my personal favorite although sometimes it’s one of those love hate kind of relationships. I know that I should and once I do I always walk away feeling better, but the monkey mind is real and it will do anything it can not to give up control especially when it has the grip of a disempowering state.
So there you have it, 7 things to try when you are wading in the waters getting ready for the next big wave.
